It’s Not a Suggestion
The Second Amendment was adopted on December 15, 1791, as part of the first ten amendments contained in the Bill of Rights. It reads: “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” The Second Amendment isn’t a suggestion, or some vague idea. It’s a bedrock principle of our country’s founding document. Nor is it a “collective” right. It’s an individual right, an individual right that has been upheld by multiple Supreme Court cases. That’s why I strongly support the responsible, law-abiding use of firearms by all Americans, and oppose efforts at either direct or indirect gun control. Gun control doesn’t work. That’s been proven by simply examining how strict gun control has done nothing to prevent Chicago, New York, Washington D.C. from having the highest rates of gun violence among large cities in the world. As a state, we need to ensure those who are prone to violence get the mental health services they need, and we must swiftly and severely punish those who use a firearm to commit crime. I’m proud to be endorsed by the Minnesota Gun Owners Caucus, a non-partisan political action committee focused on supporting state and federal candidates that are strong supporters of second amendment civil rights. Additionally, I received an “A” grade from the National Rifle Association. My opponent, Kevin Dahle, received a “C” grade. As your State Senator, you can trust I’ll be a strong defender of your Second Amendment Right to Keep and Bear Arms.
